As good as your grandmother’s, or at least founder of Nuba, Victor Bouzide’s grandmother’s recipes.
Started in 2003 as a way to showcase the goodness of Lebanese food, Nuba is now a staple of the Mount Pleasant scene. This candy and pastel-coloured eatery is a mood-altering alcove away from the hustle and bustle of the Vancouver hubbub outside its windows.
The food is wholesome and delicious, as Lebanese food should be. Ideal for sharing, classic mezze dishes such as the trio of Nuba dips, pickles and cheese and the garden falafel, a secret recipe from Victor himself, are perfect entrees to get you and your friends started. While main dishes such the lamb sirloin with Lebanese rub offer a heartier option to follow.
You can’t go home without trying some famous Lebanese sweets, such as the baklava, which are completely vegan in Victor’s restaurant, and the pistachio financier complete with seasonal compote and orange blossom cream.
